ENT is a subject that not all medical students get a lot of exposure to. I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to have 4th year undergraduate students attached to us in the ENT department this year. There is a lot on the curriculum that an ENT attachment covers and although they are only with us for a week at a time, I hope they will find their time with us interesting and beneficial. Some note about the department and the weekly timetable are below, please let me know if you have been on the attachment if there are any changes we can make to offer you a better experience.
Today I facilitated a teaching session on allergy and immunology for the Mersey trainees. Allergic rhinitis is a disease that can affect up to 20% of the population and can be debilitating, particularly for students sitting their exams. Antihistamines and steroid sprays as well as allergen avoidance are the mainstay of treatment but it is also good to see immunotherapy as a potential treatment for severe disease.
Jonathan is organising and hosting next years North of England ENT Society meeting. It will be held on Friday March 8th, 2013 at Haydock Park Racecourse. The programme is being finalised and tickets will be available soon.
Jonathan gave a talk to local GPs and the CCG on updates in ENT. A copy can be downloaded here
